Hi,
I will be visiting Switzerland in mid April next year, and am just finalising my itinerary, the only decision I have left is if I should spend time in the Bernese Oberland or not! Obviously this isn't the ideal time of year to visit the area, I am aware some places will be shut and chairlifts won't be operating, but I'm not really into skiing or hiking, I'm more interested in just wandering the towns & villages & catching the train up to see Jungfrau. So I am wondering if anyone still thinks it would be worth it for me to spend a few days in the area, or if because of the time of year my time would be better spent somewhere else in Switzerland? Thanks for your help!
April, quite simply, is not a good time of year in the Alps, unless you want to spend all that money and time to see rain and fog.
If you're not hiking or skiing (neither of which is usually possible in April anyway), the main reason to visit would be for the mountain views. The villages are just places to stay to take in those views. There's nothing unique about the towns and villages of the Berner Oberland except their stunning surroundings. But as noted, the weather in April tends to obscure those surroundings.
I would spend your valuable vacation time elsewhere, or reschedule for June, at the earliest.
