Bernese Oberland Honeymoon

We have been planning our honeymoon in August and want to spend 3-4 nights in the area but can’t determine where. We would like to hike and adventure out but curious on what area to use as our home base. I have read Mürren or Lauterbrunnen may be our best options. Any recommendations for best location?

Thank you

Our stay in Wengen was magical! I would recommend that, or Murren over Lauterbrunnen. If your honeymoon is THIS August, then my suggestion is that you make reservations quickly, as many places may already be fully booked. You have chosen a beautiful spot for a honeymoon! Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply!!! Did you find staying in Wengen still allowed you easy access to explore other parts of the region!!

And thank you for the tip booking something ASAP. There are soo many options in the Bernese Oberland area, I have been hesitant in booking in fear of making the wrong choice! lol

We stayed a week at an Airbnb in Wengen September of 2023. It is spectacular! The hikes from there were easy to get to via cable cars. The train station is convenient as well. Because it’s “car free” it was so much less jam packed with tourists and cars than Lauterbrunnen. My second choice would definitely be Murren. Both of those towns are up in the mountains, whereas Lauterbrunnen is in the valley.
What a perfect area for a honeymoon!

Travel to other areas in the BO was very easy from Wengen. For example, there is a cable car that goes directly from Wengen to Mannlichen. Our stay at Hotel Edelweiss was terrific! It is a small, family owned hotel. Daniel and his team's hospitality is warm and welcoming. Breakfast is included, and they also offer a four course dinner each evening for an additional 35 CHF per person. We found that to be an extremely reasonable charge in light of how expensive dining is in Switzerland. If you want to take advantage of their dinner option, you just inform them in the morning. Our room had a small balcony with a view of the Jungfraujoch. https://www.edelweisswengen.ch/en/hotel There is a COOP grocery by the train station in Wengen. We would stop there each morning, and grab some things for picnic lunches. The fact that Wengen is a car-free village was a bonus for us. Much quieter than Lauterbrunnen, and you are not in the valley, but up in the Alps.

Another vote for Wengen.

We spent a full week there at the Hotel Maya Caprice in a junior suite to celebrate our 40th.

The views were absolutely sensational from both the room and the restaurant. The food in the restaurant was probably the best we had in three weeks in Switzerland and Italy.

I highly recommend this hotel and the town of Wengen.

Lots of other restaurant choices too and very easy to get around on public transport.
