Berner Oberland Where to Stay late Aug 2024

My husband and I are in our 70's and this is our first trip to Switzerland. We do a lot of hiking and would be comfortable doing up to 10 miles in a day.

We are staying in Gimmelwald for 3 nights and would like to stay in one more location for another 3 nights before we head to Zermatt to meet our daughter who is walking The Haute Route and finishing September 2.

Any recommendations of another place to stay appreciated!

Stay in Wengen which is the mountain village right next door to Murren; or for a taste of small city life not in the mountains with good restaurants, shopping and rail transportation connections to the whole country stay in Bern. But it is cooler in the higher mountain villages in summer

Kandersteg is very nice and a bit less visited. We’ve been there 3 times now we like it so much. Oeshinensee is a bit overwhelmed by those strolling to the lake but there are more challenging hikes up there. We like the easy walk around the plateau at Sunnbüel. Last year we hiked the Gasterntal which is unique and not crowded. It’s not as jaw-dropping as the greater Lauterbrunnen area but very nice in contrast and usually a bit cooler in summer. Lots of info here https://www.myswitzerland.com/en-us/destinations/kandersteg/

Wengen is a good idea, but not right next door to Murren. It's on the other side of the valley. We've done 3 nights in Murren followed by 3 nights in Wengen. Kandersteg is also a good option.
