Berner Oberland pass - paper or digital?

We’ll be using the Berner Oberland pass. I see we can buy in advance and print at home. Do we have to carry the paper pass around, or is there a QR code/barcode we can take a picture of and scan when getting on trains/buses?

Also, can one person buy all the passes for the group and then forward the tickets/codes to the other travelers? Is there an advantage to buying in advance? We are arriving by car to Lauterbrunnen, where I assume we can purchase the passes at the train station.

This website has all the details on the pass:

I like purchasing my passes ahead of time at home so I can have both a printed copy and the digital copy (QR code) for my phone’s wallet. I find it easier to the show the conductor the paper copy along with a copy of my passport (the conductors will often request to see ID).

I believe there was a recent thread stating that one could purchase all the passes and then email the link to others so they can add to their phone’s wallet.

The passes are available at the train stations.

Surprised to hear we might have to show ID when using the B-O pass. I do not like having my passport with me but prefer to keep it safe in the safe where I am lodging! I will have my driver's license since it is in a plastic window on the front of my small wallet, but don't relish digging through my backpack to dig it out.

Last year we bought the Half Fare as well as the Berner Oberland Passes. We added both to our “wallets” on our iPhones. My husband and I both had each other’s passes.
We were never asked for IDs.

However, when we were in the BO area, we often had to show our half-fare passes.
