I will be staying in Lucern for 2 days, Wengen for 3-4 days, Lausanne for 2 days, and Geneva for 1 day. I was thinking of getting a Swiss Family Pass since I am traveling with two children and plan on using public transportation as the only mode of transport. Now I see that there is also a Berner Oberland Pass. After researching both passes I see that the discount to Shilthorn and Jungfrau are about the same with both passes. I guess I am not 100% sure which pass will work the best. My parents will be along for the trip as well. What pass would make the most sense for me (1 adult and 2 children ages 3 and 6, and for my parents (2 adults)? So many things to think about! Also are there discount available if we all buy our passes together?
Jessie, The Berner Oberland Pass only covers the Berner Oberland Area. Map here: http://www.regiopass-berneroberland.ch/assets/PDF/BLS-RAIL-Regio-BE-XL-16WEB.pdf
I.e. It will cover you around Wengen, get you from Luzern to Wengen, but WILL NOT cover Luzern Area, Lausanne or Geneva. You are better off with the Swiss Pass. The Swiss pass covers the whole of Switzerland, but with slightly less coverage in the high mountain railways of the Berner Oberland. It also includes city transport, useful in Lausanne and Geneva.
Get the Swiss Family Pass and you only need Swiss Passes for the 3 adults, the children travel free.
Thanks Chris,
I just wasn't sure since we would be spending so much time in the Wengen area with all the lifts and trains only partially covered by the Swiss Pass.
Jessie,
If you're going to be spending most of your time in the Wengen area, you could also look at the Jungfrau Pass - http://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrautravelpass
