Hi. I have a short trip to Switzerland on early November. I will be arriving in Geneva and i would love to see the alps! I am wondering if the tourist attractions are open during that time? I know November is not the best time to visit Switzerland but I want to make the most of it. I am thinking of staying either in Interlaken or Lauterbrunnen and do trips to Gimmelwald, Murren and Schilthorn. Any suggestions? Your advice will be appreciated.
Do you want to see the Alps, or do you want to be in the Alps? If the latter, go all the way to Mürren or Lauterbrunnen and stay there. Interlaken is Ok, but its at the base of the valleys, and you can see the mountains from there. You might as well go up the valley and be in the middle of things.
To save money buy the Swiss Half Fare card at 120CHF.
This gives you 50% off train fares and some mountain excursions specifically to the top of the Schilthorn.
You only need to buy the Swiss Half Fare Card if you know that the combined costs of the pass, train tickets and mountain excursions will be less than the costs if you did not have the pass.
Or if you can commit to a certain time to take a train download the SBB ap and buy non refundable and non-exchangeable SuperSaver Train tickets which go on sale 30 days in advance.
Is there a website I can look for schedules of cable cars? I've read that they close during november for maintenance but I don't know the exact dates. And is it too cloudy to see the Alps on November?
