Berner Oberland in October?

We'd like to visit the Berner Oberland during the first week of October this year. Our concern is that snowy weather in the higher altitudes could prevent us from hiking (i.e. Wengernalp to Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald; Grindelwald to Schynige Platte; Bachalpsee trail from Grindelwald via First). We will be in the area for 4-5 days. Is it too risky (weather-wise) to hike that time of the year?

Thanks!
Elizabeth

I think it ill be a gamble during oct. you could always risk it if it is forecast for snow then go elpewhere like luzern or along the lake thun. It is such a beautiful area for train or hiking but even in summer we lost a day to rain. Best of luck in your planning.

Early October is still a good bet. There could be some fresh snow fall higher up on the mountains, but the snowpack usually doesn't start accumulating until later in the month. The hiking routes you mentioned should all be snow-free.

Thank you JS, Chris and Tom. We will keep our plans to go the first week of October.

Hi Elizabeth,

We stayed in Wengen in mid October and had wonderful weather. I wouldn't hesitate to go in early October. Have a great trip.
