Berner Oberland Early June - Snow and Murren

Hi Guys. We will be making a trip to BO in early June after our RS Central Europe tour. We have been in BO twice in the past but later in the summer and a number of years ago. We are looking forward to doing some hikes that we did in previous trips. I wanted to know two things:
1) Are most of the trails open or is there usually lots of snow cover in early June? I know that can be different every year.
2) Where does RS tour people stay in Murren?

In the past we have stayed in Gimmelwald (pension and renting out a private room), but were thinking about staying in Murren.

Thanks, Don

It will be entirely dependent on snow this year, so it’s impossible to say until late May what is going to be open. Did you have specific ones in mind?

They don’t always stay in the same place - sometimes Hotel Jungfrau, sometimes Blumental, sometimes Alpenruh. They aren’t the best options in Mürren though.

We arrived in Murren on June 2, 2024 and at the altitude of Murren and on the trails that go from the Allemandhubel Funicular, snow was mostly not a concern. We encountered a few snowy patches on the Allemandhubel to Grutschalp Hike (3.1 mi) but we were able to traverse those areas without issue. As for lodging, we stayed at the Hotel Edelweiss and loved it. We found Murren to be a great central location from which to explore the area.

Obviously weather varies so I can only report my experience from staying in Murren in June about five years ago.

The Schilthorn peak still had snow; too much for us to hike down from there. Instead we got off at Birg; still some snow, but able to hike without special equipment. Everything below Birg was snow free. Everything at the Murren / Gimmelwald / Winteregg level will be snow free.

We stayed at Chalet Fontana and loved it. Fantastic view across the valley (http://www.ferntree.ch/chalet/fontana_summer.htm).
