We have one day free for a daytrip from Zurich and can't decide between Bern and Lucerne. Which of the two would you pick? We aren't into museums or hiking. We love seeing beautiful architectures and scenary. We are thinking maybe we leave it until the day of and decide - partially by the weather of the cities on that day. Help us decide please! thank you!
We were in both just a couple weeks ago - while they are both lovely- there is NO contest . . . LUCERNE for sure.
Great, thanks! I have a feeling the answer is no but is there enough time to see both cities in a day?
No, Lucerne needs a full day. Try and take a cruise on Lake Lucerne - it is stunning. So much to see and explore in the town.
Bern is nice, but nothing special that you won't/haven't seen in other European cities. Lucerne is so special. This was our 2nd time there - it never gets old.
I agree with the previous poster - Luzern hands down. I’ve been fortunate to spend a fair amount of time there and still love it. Bern is quite nice, but Luzern is very special.
Lucerne, and book a dinner cruise . They aren’t too expensive and the views are amazing!!! You can visit mount Pilatus if you have time and do a little hike or a long one, or just enjoy the city. The RS book has a good guided tour. There are plenty of nice places to eat right on the water. If I only had 3-4 hours I would book a dinner cruise.
Luzern is in the mountains. Bern is not.
