Bern to Gruyere for H.R. Giger Museum

Hello,

My family will be heading to Barcelona and Ireland in 2 days. My daughter has her heart set on visiting the H.R. Giger Museum in Gruyere Switzerland. We have some time between April 20th -24th as a possible time to make the trip. They will be flying in to Bern from Barcelona.

We were wondering if anyone had any tips on the amount of time and distance it would take to drive from Bern to Gruyere or if it would be better to fly into Geneva instead.

Thanks so much!

Bern has a tiny airport, and I don't believe it serves Barcelona????
Do you mean Basel or Zurich Airports?
Gruyere is kind of in the center of the country so it would be kind of equidistant for mot all the airports. You can easily check driving time my using Google Maps.
Gruyere is also easily reach by train. You can check schedules at the Swiss Rail site:

Vueling Airlines flies Barcelona to Geneva. You can get trains connecting to Gruyere right from the airport, so no real need for a car. Gruyere is also home of a big chocolate factory and Gruyere cheese.

If you go to the museum also make sure to go to the HR Giger museum bar right across the street...fantastic!

lunchlady, you do not "book rail passage" in Switzerland. It is not an ocean liner :-)! You just turn up at the station (Genève-Aéroport) and buy a ticket to Gruyères, either from the ticket machine or the manned ticket counter. There is no discount for advanced purchase, no seat reservation, just buy a ticket and get on the train.
Lookup times and prices on the Swiss Railways site: https://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html

"Gruyères" is the town "Gruyère" is the district or the cheese.
