We are going to be spending a week between Bern and Zurich in December. We are looking at 1-2 day trips and trying to narrow down our choices. But I'm not clear on which areas might be best for a summer trip and which would be good choices for winter. Would love to hear anyones experience with December day trips.

Lots of experience with December day trips! Do you want to go up mountains? Do some hiking? Scenic train rides? So many of the great areas in summer are spectacular in winter as well.

There are direct SBB trains that run from Zurich HB to Konstanz (Lake Contance) in as little as 1 hr 12 m with about 45 trains per day and no transfers required. It is also called the Bordersee as it is between Switzerland, Germany and Austria. It has several Christmas Markets in the many scenic villages. If the Lake doesn't freeze over totally, there are ferries that will still make connections along the shore piers.
