Bellagio to Lucerne

Hi There!
We are planning a trip to Italy and Switzerland June 28-July 8. I have a few questions.

1-What would be the best way to get to Lucerne from Bellagio? We have 6 adult travelers with us.

2-What is the quickest way from Lucerne to Milan?

3- Is the Golden Pass a fun day trip? We've never seen Switzerland and are staying in Lucerne. We were thinking riding the Golden Pass to a few villages and back would be fun!

Thanks so much!

You could rent a car in or near Bellagio and drive into Switzerland , return car in Milan. We have done this.

  1. Take the bus from Bellagio to Como San Giovanni station. You can get a train from there to Luzern, either with a change at Arth-Goldau or Lugano. If you want a more scenic route, change at Cadenazzo to the "Treno Gotthardo" which goes more over the mountains than under them like the fast route.

  2. There are frequent trains from Luzern to Milan with a change at Arth-Goldau or Lugano. Takes 3 hours.

  3. You take the hourly train to Interlaken Ost, then change to a train to Lauterbrunnen. From there go up to either Wengen or Muerren. The train to Interlaken is part of the Golden Pass and is quite scenic. Once you get to Wengen or Muerren, you will see the real Alps.

There is a direct train from Luzern to the Milano Centrale station (3h 45m).

Two, one at 12:18 and one at 16:18. Otherwise, frequent departures at all other times with a connection.

Between Milan and Luzern, you have two choices for the train: either the fast way under the Alps via a tunnel, or the slower route that goes over the Alps ( the Treno Gottardo that Sam mentioned). Since you will want the fast train to return to Milan for your flight home, maybe you would like the more scenic journey from Milan to Luzern.

As for the Golden Pass train, I personally cannot imagine spending another day on trains after getting to Milan. I don’t think it will add that much to your Swiss experience, compared to other choices.

i will suggest a better excursion— the Rigi round trip, by boat, cogwheel train, cablecR , and another boat back to Luzern. You can stop and walk around at any point in the journey, and there are beautiful views over the lake and Alps.
