Basel Tram

Hello,

We are arriving in Basel on a river cruise ship at the Klybeck cruise terminal tomorrow (Sunday).

Is it possible to catch the tram from there to the train station as our hotel is situated there? If so, could you please help with directions to get to the tram and what number tram it is?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kind regards

Which train station, Russell? There are 3.

For a starter for 10, your tram should be free as you are going to a hotel in Basel.

I see that you got your answer on the competing service, Tripadvisor.

Yes, tram No. 8 from Kleinhünigen tram stop, but there is a walk first. The Klybeck terminal is in the docks about 500 metres from the Kleinhünigen tram stop.
For a map showing the Klybeck terminal (yellow pin) and the tramstop click here

Click here for a map of the tram system. Kleinhünigen stop is top centre, at the end of the purple No. 8 route. You then take a No. 8 all the way to the station (Bahnhof SBB). You need to buy a 1-zone ticket (cost 3.40 Franks) from the ticket machine BEFORE getting on the tram. The ticket machine takes Franks and Euros. Once you book in at your hotel they will be given a free tram and bus pass for the duration of your stay.

Lots of people in Basel speak English, so feel free to ask you fellow travellers for help, but please say "Excuse me, do you speak English" first, it is only polite.

If you have a lot of luggage a taxi might be easier, but that would cost about 40 Franks. Basel taxis are expensive.

@Nigel, you posted while I was typing.

The deal for free transfer to the hotel is described here. It requires "a room reservation confirmation stamped with “Mobility Ticket.”". It is valid from the airport or station, but not, AFAIK, from either of the boat terminals. The OP would probably have got away with it if they had a printed confirmation, but I was just being safe and saying he should get a ticket it is only CHF 3,40!

I am assuming the hotel is at the Bahnhof SBB, not Badischer Bahnhof, as there are lots of hotels at the former and only one at the latter. "Gare SNCF"* is next to Bahnhof SBB, same tram stop. When the trams arrive there they make an announcement in 3 languages:
"Bahnhof SBB SNCF, Gare CFF SNCF, Swiss and French Railway station"

Hello all,

My apologies...it is the SSB station.

Thanks you for your replies. Appreciate you taking the time and helping out.

Regards

Russell.

Thanks for the clarification, Chris F. I've used the free transport several times but always when arriving by train. I never thought that they would not allow arrival by boat.
