Basel to Murren, Murren to luzern

We will be leaving a river cruise in Basel the morning of May 1st, then we are on to Murren , I have been trying to understand the trains, so question, is it possible to get to Murren by train and mountain lift in one day ? we plan on buying a 8 day 2nd class pass, as we will be going to Luzern from Murren, and plan on taking mountain lifts and boat rides etc along the way. Transportation and site suggestions are welcome. We are walker but only lite hikers. thank you I have gone out to the SSB site and it keeps telling me
" At this time, our online system can't find tickets or schedules for this " I must be doing something wrong but do not know what . Help

thank you

Yes, totally doable in one day-- 3 to 3.5 hours depending on route and departure time. I have found Google maps to be pretty accurate for Swiss public transport (though of course SBB has the most information!).

When using SBB you have use the ü umlaut when you search Mürren.
You can just copy and paste it.

The SBB web site is acting strange tonight. Whatever date I click on, it pulls up the day before's schedule. So to make it show me May 1st, I have to set the date at 2nd of May, and it pulls up 1st of May! So not your fault. Try again tomorrow. It'll probably be fixed by then.

And it shows the train ride from Basel to Mürren takes about 3 hours, and usually with 3 connections.

it will default to current time, so if you are many time zones away that is what you will see until you change the time in the request.

thank you all for the info, I finally figured out the time tables , is a stop in Bern on the way to Murren doable , do they have lockers at the station and what station do we get off in Bern to spend a couple of hour if it is doable . thank you, Also Rick S. mentions renting a bike in Murren and riding down to Lauterbrunnen. Has any one had that experience? Thanks again

Yes, a stop in Bern on the way to Mürren is possible. All trains from Basel to Mürren go via Bern.
Yes, there are luggage lockers at Bern station. The station is just called "Bern".

As Jazz+Travels says, the correct spelling is Mürren. An alternative spelling is "Muerren", "Murren" is wrong, if you put that into the SBB website ( https://www.sbb.ch/en ), it will offer a number of places starting "Mur...", but Mürren will not be first on the list because that doesn't start with "Mur...".
But, you don't need to check train times in advance. All rail lines in Switzerland have at least on train per hour, often two per hour. Just turn up at the station and get the next train heading in the correct direction.

Note 1st May is a public holiday in Basel and some other parts of Switzerland. Shops will be closed.

Just to get my 2 cents in...the SBB website is smart enough to know that even though I type Murren it will give me the option of choosing Mürren.

Secondly the bug in the date portion of the search has been there for a very very long time. If you type a date into the search field and then tab to the next field the date portion in the previous field is set back 1 day. It's just a bug I know and live with now.

Yes, it's entirely possible to travel Basel to Mürren in a single day because I actually traveled Mürren -> Basel Airport -> Murren in a single day to retrieve lost luggage from my Air France flight several years ago.
