Basel airport hotel

At the end of our Europe trip in May, we need a hotel near the Basel airport. The flight is before the birds get up, so it doesnt need to be real nice cause we wont be there long! Just not a dump with recycled cardboard walls. Thanks!

I’d stay somewhere at the train station (my favorite is Hotel Schweizerhof, but there are a couple of decent alternatives and the Ibis Budget hotel on the back side of the station is also doable). First airport bus leaves directly from the station to the airport terminal at 4:10am, takes about 15 minutes and will be free with your hotel-provided Basel Card. Best way to go. If you need to be at the airport earlier than that, taxis are always available outside the station.
The only hotel “at” the airport is the imaginatively named “Airport Hotel Basel” which is still some distance away, but the same airport bus also stops there at 4:19am, 5 minutes ride to the terminal. There is, oddly, a casino attached to the hotel and a basic hotel bar/restaurant. Should be ok for one night, but you’ll probably want to go into the city to have dinner etc. with the bus, as the area around the hotel is semi industrial and not that interesting.

I'm curious as well.... I have one day/night in Basel after a river cruise before my 6:00 am flight the next morning. Doesn't sound like the "first bus of the day" will work for a flight that early, though for a small-ish airport like BSL...? What is the recommended check-in for a connection in AMS for DTW? I think I'd still rather stay in a pleasant area and get up early.

BTW: Some transit searches suggest that the French train station Saint-Louis is walkable to BSL. The map doesn't make it look that way!

Hotel F1 is the most bottomest lowest rung of the Accor mega-chain ladder. Very cheap, well below my comfort level.

That said, that particular location does have some rooms (Cabrio rooms) which have an ensuite toilet. Most are the traditional sink in the room, toilet and shower down the hall.

BTW, the first bus from Basel SBB is at 4:10 am and arrives at the airport at 4:26 am.

That 4:10 bus just is out of my comfort zone for a 6:00 am flight. I decided to book at the Hotel Spalentor near the University/Petersplatz. Apparently I'll be there during the Autumn Festival. I'll Taxi/Uber/Bolt to the airport. No reason to cheap out on the last thing I need to do on a 3 week itinerary!
