Base in Wilderswil vs. Lucerne?

Hi all,

Planning a family road trip looping Munich > Stuttgart > Freiburg > Wilderswil/Interlaken area > Lucerne > Fussen > back to Munich. Currently planning to base in Wilderswil for about 3 nights (Interlaken and Hohematte day 1; Lauterbrunnen and Murren day 2,;Wengen/Lake Brienz/something else nearby day 3) and then move up to Lucerne for 2 nights (see the Chapel Bridge, Old Town, lake promenade on day 1; boat ride, cogwheel railway cable car on day 2).

We are wondering is it more worth it to base in Lucerne for this entire stretch of time and just take day trips to the Interlaken/surrounding areas using the high speed train? Or good idea to base in Interlaken area for a few days then move to Lucerne before Fussen? Latter seems to be best

I would definitely base in Wilderswil given your plans. We stayed there and enjoyed it. Schnyge Pkatte leaves from there.

There is no high speed train connecting these two areas. You can go from Luzern - Bern in one hour, but then you still have to get from Bern to Interlaken and once you hit Thun the train winds its way slowly around the lake, high speeds are not possible. Alternate route is along various lakes and also over a mountain pass….definitely not high speed.
