My wife and I are looking for restaurant suggestions for mid June in Wengen and Murren for traditional Swiss dishes. Quaint settings would be a bonus.
daryl,
I don't think you'll have any problems finding "authentic swiss cuisine" in that area. What type of foods are you interested in? Will you be anywhere else besides Wengen and Mürren?
One of my favourites and something I enjoy on every trip to Switzerland is Rösti (there are several versions). Not good for my waist line, but it's sure good! One restaurant that I'd highly recommend in that area is the Hotel Oberland in Lauterbrunnen. Since you'll transit through there on your way to either Wengen or Mürren, it will be an easy stop.
Thank both of you. We will be in the area for five days so we will try them. I wasn't sure fondue was even served in the summer months and certainly wanted to try it in the alps. Thanks again!
Raclette is a dish we like a lot. Generally a winter dish, it is available year round.
The terrace restaurant at the top of the Allmendhubel funicular does a decent job, as does the youth hostel restaurant on the terrace in Gimmelwald. Beautiful views at both, and if you are lucky at Allmendhubel you may get an Alphorn performing, too.
Melted Raclette cheese, often on a circular melter in front of you, is scraped onto a plate with a few very small potatoes and some small pickled onions. Yum. In summer it is usually brought from the kitchen on a plate.
