Austria - Germany - Switzerland

Hello, I'd love some feedback and suggestions for this trip I am planning for Sept 2024. The flights are booked (Vienna and Zurich).

Here's what I have so far:

  • Vienna (firm) - fly into and stay 4 nights (considering renting a car on departure day)
  • Salzburg (firm) - 3 nights

I'm having a challenge figuring out our visit to Berchtesgaden and Neuschwanstein Castle on route to Switzerland. Do we visit Berchtesgaden as a day trip while in Salzburg?
Where do we stay in Germany?

I haven’t routed the Switzerland leg yet so I’m open for suggestions as we are flying home from Zurich.

I rented a car in Salzburg and drove to Eagle’s Nest for a tour, then drove to Hallstatt and stayed the night, and drove back to Salzburg and retuned the car the next day. I hear that day trips bus/train tours can be made or hired to both places too, but probably not both on the same day.
