Hi, I plan to attend Jazz Ascona for the 1st time & would like any suggestions. Do I need to get my train tk from Milan to Ascona, SW. a head of time ? I have never been to Milan also will have 2 days before flight home...?

No need to buy in advance, it is all on regional trains. The standard route would be to take the Malpensa Express train to Milano Centrale station, then change to a regional train to Bellinzona, just before Bellinzona, at Giubiasco, get off and change to a train to Locarno.
An alternate route would be to take a bus from Malpensa airport to Stresa and proceed to Ascona via lake ferry. The buses from Malpensa cost 12 euro, take 1 hour, and leave at 8:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm. The ferries leave at 11:15 am, 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:30 pm. Cost is 18.70 euro. Takes about 3 hours.

There is also direct bus service from Malpensa to Bellinzona where there is a short train connection to Locarno.

Thanks Sam, The ferry over sounds magical ! Had no idea of the option. This Forum is a great way to enhance a trip. I will have 2 days after Ascona, so Lake Como may be in my future, or I have never been to Milan...let the adventure begin. Thank You All, for the help after reading other travel posts on Rick's site. I wish peace & safe journeys... life is too short to own a TV.
