I just realized we will be in Wengen on ascension day (rookie mistake not checking holidays). I’m wondering how much we will affected by this? We will be there May 28 until June 2nd. Should we book reservations for dinners? Do we need to make reservations for other activities? Since we are traveling with kids our original plan was just to be flexible dependent on weather conditions and how the kids were doing. Anything else I might need to consider with this holiday in mind?
Hi, in general holidays are like a Sunday as far as closures are concerned. You can expect stores to close as early as 5:00 pm the day before and remain closed on ascension day. But tourist areas can be different (more open), you can check the Coop in Wengen to see what their hours will be if there is anything you hope to pick up there.
No idea if you need to make a restaurant reservation, but it might not hurt.
No need to reserve other activities except for those that normally suggest or even require reservations such as Jungfraujoch.
If the weather is nice you can expect things to be extra busy. Getting an early start on anything that is extremely popular is normally the best way to avoid crowds.
Thank you so much for the reply. Great idea to check the coop hours-we go there daily for lunch and our afternoon caffeine fix while in Switzerland (and chocolate and the addicting paprika chips). Looks like they are thankfully open normal hours. Phew! I’ll look into doing something less touristy and off the beaten path that day. Hate dealing with huge crowds, especially with kids. Thank you again!
