We are staying in Grindelwald for a couple nights in mid-October. Do we need to get dinner reservations? And if so, how far ahead?
Any restaurant recommendations are also welcome (eg I've heard Stallbeizli Heubode recommended)

No, the area will be pretty quiet by then, as the area almost completely shuts down in late October-November to prepare for ski season. Other than tourist hotspots like Jungfraujoch, which are busy year round, but many leave the area before dinner.
