April weather in the Alps ?

We are visiting Switzerland at the end of April 2017 after spending four weeks in Italy.

The main reason is to visit an elderly Uncle in Zurich at the end of our trip. Otherwise we would most likely have visited Switzerland at a better time weather wise.

So, my question is, would the itinerary below with days in Zermatt & Mürren be too much of a gamble weather wise ?

Should we plan for more City based touring or stick to the mountains and hope for the best ?

21st April Friday - Pontresina - Bernina Express - Torino to Pontresina;

22nd April Saturday - Pontresina

23rd April Sunday - Zermatt - Glacier Express -St Moritz to Zermatt;

24th April Monday - Zermatt

25th April Tuesday - Lausanne

26th April Wednesday - Lausanne

27th April Thursday - Gimmelwald or Mürren

28th April Friday - Gimmelwald or Mürren

29th April Saturday - Gimmelwald or Mürren

30th April Sunday - Zurich

1st May Monday - Zurich

2nd May Tuesday - Fly out

The Alps, quite simply, are at their worst for tourism in April. Not just because of the weather, which is generally overcast. But much of the tourist infrastructure in the mountains shuts down. The snow cover is too wet and uneven for skiing, but too much for hiking. And as soon as the snowpack retreats, the farmers use the opportunity to fertilize the pastures... how does the smell of liquified manure sound for a vacation memory?

If you still decide to visit the Berner Oberland, 3 days is entirely too long, because there simply isn't much to do at that time of year.

There may be a bit more activity in Zermatt, because the ski season never completely ends there.
