April Driving from Milan by car to Stresa, Lautenbrunnen Grindewald Interlaken Lucerne Milan

Hi Everyone,
I would like suggestions on where I should spend my 6 nights in the above places.
I understand the weather may not be the greatest, but we have no other options. So we have to make the best of it.

Thank you,
Dave

You have picked some of my most favorite places in all of Europe. Milan is my least favorite of your options. Stresa was wonderful but very quiet but we like that. If you can fit Gimmelwald (not Grindelwald)into your itinerary you will be glad you did. You won't go wrong with any of your options.

We spent a week in Grindelwald and highly recommend you stay there. We felt like we could touch the Eiger! Excellent train access. It was so easy to get the Jungfrau and many other places.

Actually there are no such places as Lautenbrunnen or Grindewald. Check your spellings. They are actually Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald and are very close to each other.

Ingrid,

As you'll be driving, a few points to mention.....

  • Each driver listed on the rental form will require the compulsory International Driver's Permit for driving in Italy. These are used in conjunction with your home D.L. IDP's are easily available at any BCAA office for a small fee, and are valid for one year.
  • You'll need to be extremely careful to avoid the ZTL (limited traffic) areas which exist in many Italian towns. *Each pass through one of these zones will result in hefty fines, which you likely won't know about until several months after you return home.
  • Driving in Switzerland with a car rented in Italy means you'll have to ensure that the car has the Swiss Highway Tax Vignette. Those caught without it will face hefty fines, which are often collected on the spot!

You might find that well planned rail trips are faster and easier, and a more efficient use of your very short six nights.
