Hello All,
My husband and I are planning a 2 week trip to Switzerland in August. We are thinking of starting our trip with 3 nights in the Appenzell region (including our sleepy arrival day). The hotels advertise a free Appenzeller Holiday Card which includes travel from the Zurich airport, free local travel on lifts and other benefits. My question is whether you will receive one card good for travel for 2 people if you're in a double room or if you would only get the benefit for one person and would have to make up the difference. Has anyone successfully received and used the Holiday Card?
Thanks for your input,
Julie
Hi Julie,
You will pay for one card for each of you. We were offered the card from our Airbnb hosts last summer (you must stay 3+ nights I think). It was a great deal since trips up Hoher Kasten, Santïs, and Wasserauen were all included, as well as trips on Bodensee and train travel as far as St Gallen.
It appears we paid 153 Swiss francs for a family of 5.
We were in Appenzel last Summer, 4 adults and 2 children. We didn’t need tickets for the train from Zurich to Appenzel because we had the STP but received the Appenzeller cards when we got there for each of us. It did not cost us anything for them because we were there for 3 nights. Even though you have a double room, they’re still going to ask how many are in your party and you will also be asked for your passports. It’s beautiful there, have a great time!
Thanks friends.
We will have a Swiss Travel Pass as well but it’s good to know the Holiday card works for multiple people. Can’t wait to return to my favorite country!
Julie
