Appenzell Yes or No

I enjoyed appenzell very much but we were there for 2 nights, just right. A nice small experience of switz. With a walk hike to ebenalp on our way to Germany.
But your itin is diff. Certainly u could skip it for more exciting sights in berner oberland area, imo.

I found that Appenzell tends to be slightly different than other parts of Switzerland, so it's worth a visit. However, my suggestion would be to drop one night from Lausanne and add to Appenzell. It will take about two hours to get there from Zürich and almost three hours to get from Appenzell to Lucerne. Especially if you'll be dealing with jet lag, I don't believe one night would be worth the effort, especially if you plan a trip up to Ebenalp. I'm less enamored with Lausanne, so that's one reason for my suggestion.

Have you checked with Ebenalp to be sure they have a room availble for your dates?

Thanks for all your comments. It sounds like Appenzell is worthy of our time. I'm in love with all things Germanic so I'm sure no matter what I decided it will be a great trip!! I am trying to make a home base of 4 days in each area so I can use Airbnb and miles. For example Lausanne I am using as a home base to visit Murten, Avenches, Wine country, Chillon etc. Thanks again!!

Thanks for the comments regarding Appenzell. Plan just an overnight on our way between Innsbruck and before starting a week Zurich visiting family.
