It is very small town; there is not much walking needed to see it.
Where are you going before that?

We loved the Adler Hotel, as mentioned in the Rick Steves' Switzerland guidebook. The location is right in the center of town, but of course, the town is very tiny. We opted for a room in the older section because of the view overlooking the river, the main street and the hillside in the distance. It is a small family run hotel. We stayed three nights last year and so received the Appenzeller card, which gave us free local transportation.
