Any stay at the Alpenblick in Murren?

There will be 7 of us staying in the family apartment plus a double room
Just checking that other people have had a good experience at this hotel.
Nice views? balcony? Breakfast?
We will be there in mid June.
Thanks for your insight

We were there about four or five years ago but it has since been re-done and has new owners, judging from the photos. It needed sprucing up back then but looks great now. Very good breakfast--after all this is Switzerland. We chose to eat most of our dinners there, too. Nice room facing the mountains; it was a pleasure watching the light change on the mountains at different times of day. It's close to the little train, but you don't really notice them. Have fun. You'll love it!

Thank you Bets for the feedback
Any hikes or day trips that you would recommend?
Did you use a Swiss pass, jungfrau pass, or Bernice Overland regional pass?
Recommendations?
We will be there 5 nights in Mid June
Thanks for you help

We weren't nearly so organized! It was a spur of the moment trip, and I forgot all my notes on my computer at home. There are numerous hiking trails at all levels going in all directions. I noticed the Europeans had their poles. If you are a serious hiker, you might want them. Otherwise, there are easy hikes/walks. We drove from a family base in France, so no train, but I'd choose the train if we did it again. We just bought the (expensive) tickets up the mountains since none of the passes fit our needs.

Addition: the hotel under the old owners was the type of place that had repeat customers year after year who would come for a week of fresh air and opt for a half-board plan--ie: welcoming and homey even if a bit shabby at the time. It looks even better now.

Our favorite hikes:

  1. Muerren to Grutschalp (or vice versa but since you are staying in Muerren probably a great place to start). Take the gondola down from Grutschalp to Lauterbrunnen then either walk or take the Post Bus to the lift at Stechelberg for your two-stage return to Muerren.
  2. Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidigg
  3. Kleine Scheidigg down to Wengen
  4. First to Bachalpsee (very busy)
  5. First to Grosse Scheidegg where you take a bus back to Grindelwald (less traveled). The bus is discounted but not free with a BO Reg Pass.

All are non-technical although we are fond of trekking sticks and sturdy hiking shoes.

We like the Berner Oberland Regional Pass and always find it a good value. The Jungfrau Region Pass does not, as I recall, cover the lift between Stechelberg and Muerren, which would be important to you. I have never been able to make a Swiss Pass pencil out (in 4 trips), but I have found the Half-Fare Card pays off if we are also traveling elsewhere in Switzerland. If you do get a Half-Fare Card, you get an additional discount on the BO Regional Pass.
