Any Murren to Gimmewald hike tips?

Hi there we are planning on doing the hike from Murren to Gimmelwald tomorrow and then probably take the lift back up to Murren but I wanted to see if there are any tips or must know items before hand? And is part of the home through trees areas? We kind of like that vs all open sky.

If I can recall correctly (we did this hike exactly 5 years ago) it was an easy 1-hour walk to Gimmelwald from Murren. The mistake we made was to continue on down the valley until we got to the Stechelberg cable car. (The station In the valley). It was actually a nice walk through the forest and over a couple of bridges and all downhill but it took several hours and this part was not paved. Once we got into the valley the route is paved again. We stopped to see the Trummelbach falls before returning to Murren via cable car. I don't think there were many trees until after the village of Gimmelwald and then it was nothing but trees. Just stop at Gimmelwald and take the cable car down the rest of the valley. We enjoyed fantastic weather this week five years ago. Hope the weather is good for your hike tomorrow.

And is part of the home through trees areas?

Sorry, don't understand.

It is all paved, there are occasional benches, great views, as you approach Gimmelwald there is a shortcut with steps. Most of the benches are in good shape and some have shade (as hot as it gets this time of year I appreciate the shade).

It is pleasant and enjoyable.

My wife who is older than me thinks of it as an easy hike, I think of it as a walk.

It is all downhill to Gimmelwald.

I think of it as a walk, too. You can stop at the Mountain Hostel patio for some refreshments before heading to the lift back up to Muerren. Great views.

Thx. I guess a walk is ok but a hike would be nicer. We are staying in Wengen. Any hikes here that are flat to downhill where we can take transport back to origin?

You can also hike from Mürren down to Gimmelwald, make a pit stop, and then continue all the way down (mostly through forest) to Stechelberg. There is a bus there (stop Stechelberg, Hotel which also has clean public toilets) that will take you back down the valley floor to Lauterbrunnen or you can get off midway and check out the waterfalls. It's basically all downhill to Stechelberg, so just watch your knees!

Hello- I hope it is OK if I piggyback on this thread with a related question. If not, I am happy to start my own thread, but I see a lot of helpful responses on here already and hope this information will also help the OP. How does the walk from Murren to Gimmewald compare to the Murren Mountain View Trail (from Murren to Grutschalp)? Is one easier, or more scenic than the other? Is there no significant difference? We are trying to figure out how to get to Lauterbrunnen after hiking the Northface Trail. One option would be to take Murren Mountain View Trail to Grutschalp and then cable car down to Lauterbrunnen. I guess another option would be to walk from Murren to Gimmewald and then take cable car from Gimmewald to Stechelberg. We would plan to then do the Lauterbrunnen Valley Trail but maybe this is too much for one day? We only have one day to spend in Murren, so I am trying to find the best combination of hikes to do. Thanks!

Was just in the Lauterbrunnen Valley the 1st 2 weeks of June. We walked from Murren to Gimmewald. Definitely just a walk…took us about 30 minutes. Stopped to eat at Pensione Gimmewald. Beautiful views from Terrace. I would suggest a loop…starting at any point…based on what is the best starting point for you. Walk from Murren to Gimmewald, take cable car down from Gimmewald to Stechelberg. Walk the Lauterbrunnen valley from Stechelburg to Lauterbrunnen. Take gondola from Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp. Take cogwheel train from Grutschalp to Murren. Definitely doable in a day. Our favorite hike however was on the other side of the valley, the Mannlichen-Kleine Shidegg hike. Absolutely gorgeous with amazing wildflowers and a very nice restaurant near the end.

moonhead- that's a lovely idea. I was wondering if it makes a difference whether you do the Lauterbrunnen Valley trail from Stechelberg to Lauterbrunnen or vice versa? I was told the views are better coming from Lauterbrunnen but not sure if that is true. Since you were just there, maybe you have more insight into this? Thanks!

I don’t think it really matters which way in the valley you walk. Yes if you walk from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelburg you are facing the highest peaks, however you will see those same peaks while taking the train to Murren and while walking from Murren to Gimmewald. It is ALL so beautiful. Many of my pics look like there is a fake backdrop behind us it was so incredible.
