Another SBB Question

Hi Everyone,
My husband and I are arriving in Geneva on 8/30, spending 4 nights in Vevey, and then 3 nights in Montreux, and departing Geneva airport on 9/6 (long story why we ended up with this arrangement).

I have read a lot of posts about the Swiss Travel Pass, but I am still confused about it. Will someone help me?

We will most likely do day trips, Chillon Castle, Lavaux, if the weather is good a train to the Berner Oberland or Zermatt or another suggestion(?), a boat trip on Lake Geneva, maybe some of the museums around the lake, explore the region, maybe a train ride to another large city, etc.

It appears that the per person SBB six-day pass is CHF 359 for second class, and CHF 570 for first class. I started trying to figure the cost of individual train rides, but that was confusing too, since I don't really know how much I will be taking the train or what stations service different attractions.

There is also a half-price pass, which I think you purchase, but I thought somewhere I read the pass comes with your hotel room. Is that correct?

Thank you, thank you, thank you in advance for your help!

The Half fare pass doesn't come with your hotel room, it is purchased. Some Swiss hotels give customers a free mobility pass, which covers only local buses and trams. Safe travels!

In Vevey and Montruex you should get the Rivièra Card, which should take care of your local transportation.

So you will still need to pay for transportation from the airport to Vevey and back from Montruex, and for any trips outside of your area. If you plan to go to the Bernese Oberland and/or Zermatt you would pay for that too. However, with the time you have I would concentrate on visiting the area itself. There is enough to keep you busy there.

But it you do go plan to go to Zermatt do the following:
- Upon arrival at the airpot buy the Half Fare Card, and a ticket to Vevey.
- Use the Riviera Card for getting around the are.
- For your Zermatt visit just buy a return ticket to Zermatt at the station (at Half Price). In Zermatt if you want to do eg. the Gornergrat it will be 50% off as well. In fact you could buy a combined ticket all the way to the Gornergrat already in Vevey or Montruex.
- Then for return to the airport again just buy a ticket at the station.
