Another Itinerary question

I could use some suggestions on my plan. This trip wasn't supposed to be until next year. However, I got a really good deal from Delta using my miles. So I'm doing this very last minute. We will be there the 5/19-6/5. I'm not sure what to do or if I should do something else on my Appenzell and Austria days. We are driving. We love nature, history, views. I want to visit old towns and castles. Any advice on skipping Austria or Appenzell and going someplace different? Places we absolutely should not miss. Thank you!

Have you been to Alsace and Munich before? If not each could use another day.

I have not been to those places. I've never been to Europe before. I know we won't be spending more time in Munich, way too big for my partner. If I stay in Austria, I am going to talk my partner into going to Salzburg one day.

Always nice when an adventure happens as a surprise!
Just a few random thoughts-
You'll need a rental car that can cross borders, and has the required vignettes. Also, take into account the high cost of petrol, tolls, and parking. Most of your destinations are easy to access via train, except for the Black Forrest. You are covering alot of territory- have you worked out the actual drive times- then add time? You will also need an IDL.
IMHO, skip Fussen, as the N'stein Palace is the definition of a tourist trap.
I glad you have five nights in the BO; no one is ever ready to leave. However, many of the lifts and mountain passes aren't open until mid-June.
I would sleep in Salzburg, as the mornings and evenings are magical. And Berchtesgaden is beautiful!
Have a great trip!

If you want to do Salzburg for your your Austria portion, then I would swap dates of the Fuessen/Austria destinations. So go to Fuessen from Appenzell, then to Austria, as Austria is just down the road from Fuessen. Be sure to get Swiss and Austrian vignettes for the car crossing the border, and IDP's for both drivers.
