Trying to figure out where to spend 3 days pre cruise out of Lyon. We want a little taste of the Alps, Switzerland.
I have never been to Annency but have spent lots of time along Lake Geneva. Montreux, Vevey, and Lausanne are LOVELY with the beautiful lake and the alps across on the other side. The vineyards along the north side of the lake are amazing (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and each of these three towns has lots to see. Go to the cathedral in Lausanne, visit Chateau Chillon in Montreux, and walk along the lakefront in Vevey. Vevey is such a hidden gem with it's very pretty old town and promenade along the lake. An odd sight to see here, but one that I love because I'm a bit of a foodie, is the food museum, right on the lake. Sounds weird but it's fantastic!
It's easy to get to the alps from the area...head east to Verbier, ride the lift up to the top of the slopes and just stare in amazement. You can also go north of the lake towards Interlaken and Gstaad where the alps are also quite stunning.
Although Annecy is lovely, IMHO Montreux, Vevey and the Lavaux vineyards win hands down. This is an absolutely beautiful area with lots to see and do.
