My husband and I are taking a Transatlantic cruise, followed by a cruise of Norway in April-May, 2019. We disembark in Amsterdam on May 12 and would like to spend a week to 10 days in Switzerland. We are in our early 70’s and have traveled extensively, but never on our own, but rather with a group. We are seeking suggestions on the best way to travel to Switzerland- thinking rail; a central location in Switzerland from which we can take day trips( not interested in dragging luggage around); and, any other advice/ helpful hints one may have. We will fly home from Switzerland. Thank you.
It is a long way by train (8½ hours or more from Amsterdam to central Switzerland). Unless you relish a long day on a train, or want to stop off somewhere in between, I suggest you fly from Amsterdam to Zürich.
"We will fly home from Switzerland." - I assume you mean Zürich airport.
You have 10 days (9 nights), a good time. I suggest you split it 3 nights Luzern, 6 nights Jungfrau Area. On your last day, train direct to Zürich airport.
Luzern - Pretty Town on lake. 3 local mountains with trains / cable cars to the summit (Pilatus, Rigi and Titlis). Boat trips on the lake. 70 Mins. from Zürich airport by train.

Jungfrau Area - Mountains up close and in your face. 4 towns / villages to choose from: Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, Wengen and Grindelwald. Mürren and Wengen are car free, access by train or cable car only (or on foot).

Alternative - If you are fealling sprightly, in 10 days you could do a circuit of Switzerland by scenic trains: Luzern - Jungfrau Area - Zermatt - St Moritz - Chur - Zürich airport.
Thank you so much! Greatly appreciated!
