Alps ski trip

Can anyone recommend a guidebook to help in planning a ski trip to the Alps? I love Rick’s guides, but they don’t provide a lot of information regarding skiing and winter activities.

I’m considering France, Italy and Switzerland in between Christmas and New Years.

Just be aware that between Christmas and New Year is the single most expensive time to ski in the Alps. almost everyone in Europe gets that week off and a lot more Europeans ski than Americans. I go every other year, usually late January.

But it is not too complicated. Pick a place, book lodging, buy an airline ticket, see how to get from the arrival airport to the resort (usually fairly easy by bus or train). Then pack your ski gear and go. It really is not much different than skiing in the US, just a longer airline flight. and it will be refreshing to see how much lower lift prices are these days compared to the US.

BTW, Switzerland will be noticeably more expensive than France or Italy.

Not a book, but two websites I found pretty helpful are Powderhounds and Ski.com (not Skis.com, which is an online retail store). Ski.com is an Aspen based online travel agency, but they have some good information on their website. FWIW, I used them to book a trip to the French Alps a few years ago, and they were very knowledgeable and helpful. Good luck with your planning and enjoy the trip. I found sking the Alps a great experience.
