We are an active 57 and 69 year old couple who will be ending our December trip on a Rhine River cruise exploring Chrismas Markets beginning in Basel, Switerland and ending in Cologne, Germany. We would like to explore the southwest corner of the country (have visted Luzern, Gimmelwald & Appenzell on previous trips) prior to the cruise. Our current plans are:
Day 1: Arrive in Geneva, train to Lausanne (2 nights), explore town.
Day 3: Rent car, drive to Gruyeres, Broc (cheese & chocolate) and end in Montreux (2 nights) via the Corniche de Lavaux.
Day 4: Chateau de Chillon
Day 5: GoldenPass train to Interlaken then Gimmelwald (2 nights)
Day 7: Train to Bern (2 nights)
Day 8: Train to Basel & begin cruise.
Questions: Overall thoughts on our itineary?? Will there still be good sights in December given it is the dead of winter? Should we add something? Lengthen? Take something out?
Thank you so, so very much!!!
