Advice needed Basel to Zurich airport

Good afternoon. My husband and I are staying in Basel next Fall for an event we need to attend. There is a better flight home from Zurich to NYC that leaves on a Sunday at 1:40pm. I presume that with a 3 hour time-frame to come early, I need to have us at Zurich airport by 10:45-11am latest. I have heard that there is a direct train.

Can anyone confirm that the train does go right to the terminals? I think it's about a 90 min. trip?

Anyone else done this trip before? If we fly out of Basel, we must take 2 flights and it's a much much longer day.

Thanks for your help.

With the current train schedules you can see that there is one train per hour with 0 connections at 37min past the hour that goes from the main Basel train station directly to the Zurich airport, flughafen. It is probably too early for next fall’s schedules but check back with Swiss train site in a couple of months for next fall’s schedules.

Yes, there are direct trains from Basel to Zürich airport. If you visit www.sbb.ch you can see the schedule. It is far too early to search for trains a year in advance, but if you look up the schedule in January it will probably be similar in the autumn.

I just did the reverse (Zurich airport to Basel SBB) this past Sept. and it’s super easy. You will have no problems. I really enjoyed Basel. Be sure to check out the Spalentor gate if you have time. It’s easily reachable by tram. Have a great time!!

I also want to add that if this will be your first time flying into Zurich airport, here is some info. I had copied from an older post:

--You will arrive at term E., which is a satellite not connected to the main term. to reach A (in the main term.) you need to take the underground people mover which goes under the runway.
--The train station is conveniently located at the airport. It can be found at the lowest level: "Level 02" right below the "Check-in 3" area at "Level 01".

And you can find a map of the airport here. You have to zoom out to see terminal E, which is at the upper right hand side.

The train schedules for the upcoming year are valid as of this week. They won't change again until next December (usually happens second week of Dec). Of course there can always be track works or individual delays that pop up etc. but in general, the schedules you see now are set.
And yes, your train will arrive directly at the airport. You just exit the train, go up the escalator and you're in the airport - check the departure boards and follow the signs to your check-in/bag drop counter. It's very easy. As someone mentioned, there is a little people-mover tram to Terminal E where the transatlantic flights usually leave from, but it comes after check-in and security, so you will only have carry-ons by then.
Definitely better than Basel if you can get a direct flight! Also a much bigger (and nicer) airport if you end up with time to kill or a delayed flight.
