Advice for Berner Oberland visit in mid-October

making a train based trip from Basel to BO area to Zurich airport over 4 days/nights in the middle of October.
Want to set up a base for 3-4 nights above Interlaken if possible.
1) Should that work alright weather wise at that time?
2) Any thoughts about getting accommodations in either Lauterbrunnen, Gimmelwald, Murren or Wengen or another choice?
3) Cities to spend a little time in along the way -- Basel, Bern, Lucerne?
Thanks for your advice - we are looking forward to our first trip to Switzerland!

We have been there in mid-to-late October and found the weather fine. You need a warmer jacket or layers, maybe a pair of light gloves. There can be snow, but it melts quickly and should not impair hiking at all.

We like to stay in Lauterbrunnen because it is easier to go up both sides of the valley. Since you only have 3-4 nights, don't bother with Basel, Bern, or Luzern. The Lauterbrunnen Valley beats them all and 2 or 3 days will fly by. Rick Steves' guide to Switzerland is invaluable for the Berner Oberland. I hope you have it.

thanks Laurel, yes I do have Steves' Switzerland guide and it seems very good. I will check out what is available in Lauterbrunnen at that time - do you have any favorite hotels?

Hotel Staubbach in Launterbrunnen is very nice with an excellent breakfast. It's older with a lot of character and great views and very comfortable beds.
