I read in RS Switzerland book: “ save a few francs by adding the breakfast buffet to your lift ticket before heading up.” I have not seen any other information on the Internet about different pricing for the breakfast buffet if you buy it at the base of the Schilthorn cable car. We don’t need cable car tickets because we have the swiss travel pass. is it only a combo cable car ticket and buffet pass that saves money or Is there still a lower price for the buffet if we buy at the base of the cable car but don’t buy a cable car ticket? Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks in advance! We go tomorrow morning!

I'm reading that as only a discount when you buy a special combined ticket. Without that, you can make a buffet seating reservation at https://schilthorn.ch/en/Info/Offers#james_bond_brunch (or your hotel could call for you).

If you stay at the Hotel Alpenruh in Murren locates atvtge Schilthornbahn you can elect to take your breakfast at the Schilthorn instead of at the hotel. The Schilthorn food is definitely nothing to write home about.

To clarify a bit on Tim's post. Hotel Alpenruh offers a special package with this option at a significantly higher room rate than just staying at the hotel.

We stayed at the Hotel Alpenruh the first week in October 2018. Things were pretty quiet and the hotel offered us the breakfast at the Schilthorn deal in lieu of the hotel breakfast. We decided to go up on Sunday. We took the first cable car and had the restaurant to ourselves, very nice. I don’t think we paid a premium for the room or breakfast, maybe because things were slow. Check with the hotel to see what they’re offering. Fyi, “regular” breakfast at the hotel is very good too!

To clarify Carol’s post - if you already have a Swiss Travel Pass then you don’t need to book the more expensive “package deal” which includes gondola tickets from Stechelberg on up to Murren hotel then on up to Schilthorn for breakfast. If you already have tickets to Schilthorn then all you need to do is request your bfast be taken at the top instead of the hotel’s breakfast room...no added cost in that.

Thanks for all of the posts - it helped me feel more comfortable that I was not missing something. The answer is that the discount on the buffet is only available if you don’t have the Swiss travel pass and are buying the cable car ticket. Awesome anyway to have that transportation included in the travel pass so we are not mourning the loss of a small discount on breakfast!
