So I downloaded the App to get used to the functionality before taking it for Swiss travel.

Several questions come to mind..
1) Can I purchase 1/2 travel card via the app and is it saved onto the App ? - and do I buy it the day I arrive in Switzerland?
2) Do I need to register and sign in or can/should i continue to use it as a guest.. If using without signing in, the tickets bought from the App will still be saved onto the App??

Do register for an account. That way you can also buy tickets via the internet, you will get a copy in your email etc...
I am not 100% sure that if you buy the HFC it will be visible in the app, but it is not necessary that the HFC is loaded in the app in order to buy half priced tickets. You can do that anyway (just select half price when purchasing).
