A week long trip from Zurich to Milan, via St. Moritz and Varenna - please help with itinerary.

Do you like bigger cities? If it were me, I'd cut Zurich and go immediately to Luzern/Lucerne.

That is really a good advice. May be I can take 1N stopover at Zurich and go to Lucerne for 2 N. From there, to St. Moritz.

Luzern is so close to Zurich (about an hour), you could go immediately to Luzern. It's gorgeous, you won't regret it

Most people here recommend staying in the village of Pontresina instead of pricy and glitzy St Moritz. It is right on the Bernina Express line, so easy to do.

Zurich - 2N
Zurich to Lucerne - 2N
From Lucerne to St. Moritz - 1N
St. Moritz to Varenna - 2N
Varenna to Milan - 3N
Milan to Nice - 3N

Please advise whether I need to make any changes with this itinerary.

Just curious why a big city like Milan gets three nights? Sorry if you already explained and I missed it. Have a great trip!

Is there something you want to do in Zurich? If you drop Zurich, you could stay longer in more atmospheric towns, or add some time in Berner Oberland.

Zurich - it is a big city and was thinking to visit the different places, lake, museums etc.
Also in Milan regarding 2N stay, was thinking to explore this city or take a day trip to somewhere nearby tourist place.
Now, as it is our initial planning stage, we can always skip or change our route according to your valuable suggestions which will provide us more beautiful places to visit and explore this wonderful country. Thanks.

We can always change our arrival city. Is it better to start our journey from Geneva?

Arrival at Geneva - 2N
From Geneva to Lucerne via Interlaken
Lucerne- 2N
Lucerne to St. Moritz via Torino- 1N
St. Moritz to Varenna- 3N
Varenna to Milan- 2N

Please suggest with this itinerary.
