A week in Switzerland

My sister and I are planning a trip to Europe to catch some Christmas Markets. We fly into Munich and are spending a few days there, then on to Salzburg and Innsbruck. We Are heading into Switzerland and have about 6 days to see some of the country. I have my husbands family in St. Gallen and would like to go to the market in Zurich. Other than that nothing set. My Swiss husband thinks we should go to Davos and then to Zurich and Lucerne. Other than sledding and snowshoeing we aren't much for winter activities. Suggestions would be great. Thanks

You should tell him and his native family what you are really interested in so they can hook you up.

Easier said than done. He thinks that we are crazy to go to Europe in December but we have been there numerous times but not early enough for the Christmas Markets.

Davos is where people in St Gallen go skiing, so that is the connection. It does have a casino, and a professional hockey team. Flaming shots at the Rotliechtli Music Bar. The city has a very different architectural look, flat roofed buildings. You have to go to Klosters to see the classic Swiss peaked roofs.
Zurich Hauptbahnhof will have 50 foot Swarovski Crystal Christmas tree. Appenzell would be a good place to check out for a smaller Swiss town with a lot of tradition.

My husband is from Gossau which is very close to St. Gallen. Weve been to a hockey game in Davos and it was very fun but we couldnt find a hotel because we booked to late. Ive been wanting to go back but not sure what my sister and neice are wanting to do in the mountains. It depends on if they have snow or not.

We enjoyed the Christmas market in Basel. It's the only Swiss market we went to so can't compare. Salzburg is wonderful any time of year!

I love to travel in Europe in the winter! Less tourists and there's just something about it, plus the Christmas Markets :) I was in Munich, Rothenburg, and Prague last year and it was wonderful! This year I too am planning a trip to Switzerland and I have heard wonderful things about the Christmas Markets in Zurich. I am visiting friends in Geneva and Bern so trying to figure out how to fill in the gaps so I have similar constraints on my time as you - following your post and suggestions.

SO we have finally figured out an itinerary. Munich for a few days and then on to Salzburg and then Innsbruck. We are going to Bern for a few days and depending on the weather can do a day trip to the mountains or Geneva. Then we are off to Zurich where I am hoping we can connect with some of my husbands family and back to Munich for a day before heading home.
