Last year we stayed in Montreux and trained to other towns for the week. We would like to take the same kind of vacation some place else, not necessarily in Switzerland and i hoped other travelers could share their experiences.

Since you said that it did not have to necessarily be in Switzerland, I would recommend Southern France and the French Riviera. You could base yourself in Nice or Antibes or Villefranche sur Mer. There are regional trains and buses that take you to towns all along the coast. You could visit Monaco, Menton, Eze, and Cannes as well. It is a beautiful area to consider.
