My husband and I would like help planning an 8 day trip in Switzerland. We land in Zurich and would like to see Lucerne, Jungfraujoch and Geneva, possibly Zermatt. We fly out of Zürich. We’re in our 60’s and able to do some moderate hikes. I have problems with altitudes but managed Peru with medication. I’ve read that train travel is best but not sure how we could manage our luggage in trains. We’d like to stay in 2 or 3 cities as our base if possible. We’ll be flying into Zürich by noon and I’d like to know if we should go to Lucerne to stay on first night, then end our trip with a stay in Zurich. Thanks.
When is this trip? It makes a difference in the suggestions you will get.
You can easily stay in Luzern or Bern the night of arrival and the night before departure (as long as you flight is not early morning). Both these cities offer more charm and maybe less expensive hotels than Zurich, which is a business-oriented city.
It will be mid July, sorry I meant to put that in. Thanks again.
Yes, end in Lucerne, start in Lake Geneva area, then BO, then Lucerne (2-4-2--if that is more moving than you would like, consider just BO and Lucerne). I would skip Zermatt, but if could replace one of the other destinations. Some do it asa day trip, but I'd rather be on a mountain than on a train all day.
Manage luggage by not overpacking--just one suitcase shlock be completely manageable.
