8 full days in Switzerland in August

We are 2 adults and 2 kids (teens). Planning an 8 day trip to Switzerland for the first time. I need help in choosing our base in Interlaken. Here's the high level plan:
- Day 1: Zurich - land and spend the afternoon/evening in Zurich
- Day 2 & 3 - Lucerne
- Day 4-7 - Spend in Interlaken area
- Day 8 Return to Zurich

Do you think this is a good plan for a first timer? Which town should we use as our base in Interlaken area? Based on what I have read, I am leaning towards Wengen. When I asked chatgpt it suggested breaking Interlaken into two parts - 2 nights somewhere in Interlaken area and 2 nights in Zermatt. What do you all suggest?

There are direct trains from Zurich airport to Luzern at 15 and 38 past the hour, taking less than 1 1/4 hours. Why not head to Luzern as soon as you get your luggage?

Honestly, I would not consider staying in Interlaken. It is a transit hub but there are many beautiful villages nearby where you will have a better experience. We stayed in a lovely town,Grindelwald, in a Swiss chalet , filled with charm and beauty for a week. I highly recommend it! We had a car but used the trams and trains as well. I found the chalet by googling!
