8 Days in early April

Getting great info; I know I posted previously, but, suspect a different travel community as I can't find my post. Arriving Basel evening by train from Amsterdam via Frankfurt, and staying three nights then three nights in Bern and two in Luzern then train to Zurich and on to Iceland. Am an older solo traveler and figure on poor/rainy weather part of the time. Like museums and vistas; not much for hiking by myself. Probably a visit to Thun and a boat ride around that lake. Figure I should go ahead and dig deep and get the full 8 day Swiss Rail pass (not sure of price increase for 2016) so I can make decisions and just go spur of the moment. I know that hotels offer city passes for local transport in Basel and Luzern. Am using an airbnb for Bern as hotels were too pricey for one. Is my thinking close to accurate? I enjoy very much all the very knowledgable answers you Swissophiles post. Much appreciated!

An 8 day 2nd class travel pass is 363 chf. You have 3 rail journeys at 40, 38, 29 chf each. That leaves you with 256 chf. You can see an awful lot of museums and buy a lot of local day tickets with that, and still have money left over.

Remember that the trains you are taking in Switzerland don't need reservations or advance purchase, so you lose no spontaneity by not having a Swiss Pass. You can "just go spur of the moment" by buying train tickets as you need them.

Thanks, I am now thinking a Swiss Flex Pass for three or four days should be sufficient for my plans as noted above. Hotels will offer local transport cards. Appreciate this forum!
