Lauterbrunnen and Murren are so close together. Is there a reason you plan to spend one night in Lauterbrunnen before moving on to Murren?

HI
your day 4 is a big huge. Jungfrau is usually a full day, be at the rail station early, like 7am before the large tour groups from Interlaken, spend and hour on the way back down walking around Kleine Schidegg, (that would be 3pm), then an other hour in Wengen and out to the church for the best view of the valley, and a snack from the bakery, another hour stopover , about 6:30pm and and then arriving in Lauterbrunnen around 7pm you will still have light to get to the Staubbach Falls, walk up under them, will take an hour.........so a bike ride or walk up the valley and visit to Tummelbach (must do) is another half day. That maybe your day 5, then afterwards able car to Grutschalp and classic scenery moutain easy walk to Murren around 90min. and then Gimmelwald, then up to Schilthorn.

Sleep in Lauterbrunnen, saves time with checki in and out and bags etc. For day 6 Parglode you can book in Lauterbrunnen, will be a half day with trainign etc. book at Air TIme cafe in Lauterbrunnen.....
All a bit of a rush, maybe take an extra day....if you want to hire a bike at Immodeoum Bike hire in Lauterbrunnen

Rick suggests 3 days in the Area: Rick"s ideas.
hope this all helps :) - enjoy

I was thinking 1 night in Lauterbrunnen since we would be doing a 1/2 day there and at least a 1/2 day up the mountain opposite of Murren. We could do 4 nights in Murren and none in Lauterbrunnen, or 1 and 3 or 2 and 2. So confused! I do want the pretty scenery of staying up on the mountain in Murren though. Since we have 4 nights in this area and 3 days, should we skip Bern on day 3 and just go straight to Lauterbrunnen for 3 1/2 days in the Bernese Oberland area?

I basically took your same trip in September 2014, except I had 10 nights, and I didn't get to Bern. You have a very good itinerary planned - congratulations! Rick's Switzerland book has lots of specifics on your destinations, and will be even easier to follow once you're there.

There is no need to have more than one base in the Berner Oberland. It only takes 20 minutes to get from Mürren to Lauterbrunnen or vice versa - it will take longer to check out of your first hotel and check into your second hotel, so changing hotels doesn't save time.

I spent four nights in Mürren, and it was one of the best travel planning decisions I ever made. That gave me three full days which was a good hedge against the unpredictable weather, and allowed me to do activities when I felt up to them and when the weather was good for them. I see you've planned certain activities for certain days; don't hold yourself to this. Instead, see where the weather is good, and go there (your hotel will have information and webcams).

A great thing to do on arrival day in Mürren if you don't want to go all the way up the Schilthorn is to take the Allmendhubel. It's much cheaper than the Schilthornbahn, but you still get great views and some lovely (yet easy) walks.

In Luzern, besides walking around the center (indeed very nice), there are various museums. I was not as taken with the Museum of Transport as others are, particularly given the very high admission price. Look at Rick's book for other ideas.

If you have time in Lausanne, I loved the museum of outsider art (Musée de l'Art Brut). I love seeing art I can't see elsewhere, and this certainly fit the bill. The Olympic Museum was also very interesting.

Thanks for the replies. It's almost time! Looks to be too cold for the Bern swim, so thinking of skipping that town altogether. We could just do more Lake Luzern or Mt. that day and take a late afternoon train to Lauterbrunnen. Could also just leave Luzern that morning and head to the BO, but we're already there for 4 nights. Not sure what to do. Looking like a rainy forecast. May skip Jungfrau on Day 4 too. Thanks for any advice!
