If we buy an 8 day consecutive pass, how does it work for one day? Can we take the train, then a boat AND a tram? Is there unlimited usage per day? It wouldn't mess things up if you happen to skip one day, would it? Jane
Unlimited travel on Swiss trains, buses, trams, and boats (at least between inhabited locales). Use it as much or as little as you like for the period of validity.
Keep in mind that you can often use your pass for free entrance to museums.
Within that 8-day window of validity, nobody is counting how many services you use or whether you skip a day. They are only looking for a valid date on the pass. But you'll probably find at least a little something to use it for every day.
" It wouldn't mess things up if you happen to skip one day, would it?"
No. Your pass looks similar to an old plane ticket (if you remember those), and merely says the dates of validity. You just flash it when asked to show a ticket or proof of payment. The only exceptions are things that are only 50% or 25% discounted; for those, you have to buy a ticket before boarding, but you show the pass when buying the ticket to get the discount.
So, once you've bought it, you can use it as much or as little as you like; there's no limit on how many or few rides you take in a day. Be sure you're using it enough to make it a worthwhile purchase. But, do factor in that it also acts as a museum pass, and that you save time and hassle by not having to buy tickets every time, and that if you have a pass, you can hop on local transit for a few stops for free if you're tired (a great convenience). For me, these factors enhanced my trip enough that even if I spent a bit more with the pass instead of a half fare card (and I don't think I did), I'm still glad I bought it.
