7pm Eurail Rule Clarification

I am staying in Interlaken. I really want the most beautiful train ride to Venice. I know that's Bernina Express. To break up the long ride, I will overnight in Zurich the night before.

SO:
I have a Eurail Select pass. Can I take a train leaving Interlaken after 19:00 and heading to Munich (arrive 05:00) and just jump off at the Zurich stop, then use my pass on the Bernina Express the next day to Milan (then Venice) and have it count as JUST ONE DAY with Eurail?

I really appreciate the help!!! I'm going crazy with internet searching.

Why don't you contact the company where you bought the pass? Isn't that what you paid all that money for - customer service?

"The rule means that you only need to use 1 travel day when you travel on a direct night train that departs after 7 p.m. (19:00) and arrives at its final stop after 4 a.m. (04:00), even if you leave the train before 4 a.m" - Eurail Website

So yes, that would be fine, as long as both days you're travelling on are within your pass validity dates, i.e. the 7pm rule does not apply if your pass is not valid until the next day.

andy,

I'm a bit unclear on your plans. Are you planning to "jump off at the Zürich stop" and then travel from there to Chur? In addition to your Pass, you'll have to buy separate reservations on the Bernina Express.

OK, I see a night train in your connection (EN467), but it doesn't go from Interlaken Ost to Munich, it goes from Zürich to Vienna with a stop in Salzburg, not Munich. It leaves Zürich after 7 PM and it gets to it's final destination (Vienna) after 4 AM, so that should be covered by your rail pass for the second day, and you should be able to continue to use that rail pass for all of the second day.

HOWEVER, it takes several trains to get you to the start of the night train in Zürich, and those trains will not be covered under the 7 PM rule. You'll either have to pay for them separately or use another day of your rail pass to get to Zürich.

To get schedules, I looked a several random dates in May and June. Maybe there is another day where there is a night train from Interlaken. What date have you been using?

The plan will not count as one travel day on your flexi pass because there is no overnight train serving Interlaken. Night trains depart only from Zurich, Baden, and Basel. How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it. Be sure to view the detailed version that shows connection points and times.
