7 nights Switzerland late May

I am taking my 3 daughters (mid-late 20's) for a week, flying in and out of Zurich. Planning to spend first day/night in Zurich then train to possibly Interlaken for 3 nights with day trips exploring and hiking from there but question if should stay in Murren or Wengen instead? Wondering if we should then take Golden Pass to Montreux and spend night there and/or head back towards Lucerne for a night or 2? We all enjoy culture/history as well as hiking and beautiful outdoors and are eager to maximize Swiss alp experience. We want to see as much as we can in short trip but not be constantly hopping on and off trains.

I saw in another post that train from Lucerne to Zurich is only an hour so not necessary to spend the last night in Zurich for our flight...just confirming this and that there are relatively frequent trains for that?

Also any recommendation for best cable car to top of mountain experience?

Interlaken is not in the mountains. Yes, Lauterbrunnen, Murren or Wengen would put you in the mountains. I wouldn't spend any time in Zurich, spend at least 2 nights in Luzern and 4 in Berner Oberland. We went to the top of Schilthorn and Mt. Rigi, from Luzern. The best mountain top experience is where the skies are clear.
