Would appreciate your advice on our first visit to beautiful Switzerland.
Will travel in August, and stay first+last night in zurich. One night in Lucerne. Four nights in bern. Most sensible itinerary? On this trip, we prefer taking train to visit cities, villages and scenic areas, than seeing museums. Swiss train pass seems expensive, though we probably make many rides.
Thanks in advance.

Don't waste your first night in Zurich - just hop on the train from within the airport and be in Lucerne in 50 minutes. You want to see villages and scenic areas? Then you need to head for the Lauterbrunnen Valley and surrounding alpine villages of Murren, Wengen and Gimmelwald. Choose one of those places to spend 3 nights.
Actually I would hop on the train from with Zurich Airport and go all the way to Lauterbrunnen or Murren or Wengen. Get the most out of your very short time in Switzerland.
Thanks Tim.
Too bad we have already paid for four nights in Bern, non refundable. We have no choice but to use Bern as base.
Ok...I have cancelled hotel in zurich, so now staying two nights in lucerne, four in bern, and one in zurich to catch morn flight. Is it easier to visit Bernese Oberland area from bern than lucerne? Am figuring out whether to spend two full days in Lucerne, or make day trip to murren.
Help please.
