7 Days itinerary guidance

I am traveling with 14 years and a 19-year-old, we like a slow and easy trip, and try to find the balance between culture and outdoor. Seeking guidance for this itinerary and the travel means ( train or rent a car)? Where to stay, the base at Interlaken, easily get to the scenic places

Starting from SFO, have not bought air fare yet
Day 1 - Arrive at Zurich airport around 10 am, Take the train to Interlaken (4 nights base in Interlaken) or drive- 1-night Interlaken)
Day 2 To Jungfraujoch/Wengen, ( overnight Interlaken)
On day 3 take the train to Grindelwald First (overnight Interlaken)
Day 4 - Train to Bern or Zermatt ( 1 night at Bern)
Day 5 -Explore Bern/Lake Geneva, afternoon train straight to Lucerne and explore the town ( Lucerne 2 nights)
Day 6 - Experience the Golden Round Trip to Mt. Pilatus, Lucerne
Day 7- Tain to Zurich, fly to Vienna/Hallstatt/Salzburg/Neuschwanstein Castle/Munich
Day 17 - Fly back home from Munich

Rather than staying in Interlaken to be able to “get to scenic places”, stay in a scenic place such as Grindelwald instead of a transit hub, Interlaken. You will be staying in incredible beauty and be closer to the other towns you wish to visit.

You say you want a slow and easy trip, and what you've listed sounds busy and tiring to me.

  1. Unless you have a specific reason to stay in Interlaken, I suggest you stay somewhere else in that area. Perhaps Lauterbrunnen.
  2. Day 4 & 5 - cancel what you listed and instead add a day to Berner Oberland and a day to Luzern. You can do day trips from Luzern and go to Bern and Lake Geneva if you want

I lean toward getting a train pass because the trains are wonderful in Switzerldand and it's more relaxing than driving and finding a place to park, but I suggest your work out how much 3 train passes will cost vs. the price of renting a car, gas, and parking

Actually, if you get train passes, you will only need 2, as the 14-yo travels with you free when you get the free Family Card. Also, the 19-yo gets a youth discount for the Swiss Travel Pass. So for 8-day 2nd class passes, it is 389 CHF for you and 274 CHF for the 19-yo.
